What is Diabetes

Today about 200 million people worldwide have diabetes, and this number is increasing by more than 20 million each year.

If you or someone close to you has diabetes, it’s important to understand as much as you can about the condition. This blog looks in detail at diabetes, explaining how the healthy body uses glucose (sugar) and how a person with diabetes is unable to use glucose in this way.

There is no single cause of diabetes but there are risk factors that, in combination, increase your chances of developing the condition. These risk factors can be related to your genes, the environment, or your lifestyle.

How quickly you are diagnosed with diabetes depends, in part, on the nature and severity of your diabetes symptoms.

Although diabetes has an impact on your day-to-day health, it can also have serious effects on your long-term health. If your blood glucose level is regularly raised over a period of years, this can cause damage to your eyes, kidneys, feet, and heart, for example. This is why effective long-term management of your diabetes is so important.

I am also going to cover areas such as diabetes diets and the different symptoms a diabetic will experience, along with many other topics to help you manage your diabetes and protect your health well into old age.
